Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind is celebrating 10 years of delivering Mindfulness courses across central Norfolk, helping thousands of people develop better mental health and wellbeing as a result.
Since 2009, Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind’s specialist Mindfulness courses and workplace workshops have offered help with stress, depression, anxiety or simply a greater sense of wellbeing.
In 2018, the number of prescriptions handed out for antidepressants in Norfolk soared to nearly 1.7 million in a year. And with 1 in 6 people experiencing a “common mental issue” like depression or anxiety in any given week, Mindfulness is more important now than ever before.
Mindfulness is approved by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence for recurrent depression and is also proven to have the following benefits:
Decreased anxiety, stress, depression, exhaustion and irritability with regular sessions of meditation
Improved working memory, creativity, attention span and reaction speeds with only 12 minutes of practice per day
Enhanced mental and physical stamina and resilience, improved mood and increased emotional intelligence as individuals learn new skills in empathy and self-compassion
Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind is now the leading provider of mindfulness courses in central Norfolk. Ruth Taylor, Mindfulness Lead said: “It is a huge privilege to have been part of the team delivering this vital training for over a decade now. We have reached thousands of people across Norfolk, sharing with them these simple, life-changing practices that have been proven to prevent recurrent depression and anxiety or simply enhance our sense of wellbeing and performance at work.
Mindfulness means to pay attention, non-judgementally, to the present moment and is a way of helping us work differently with challenges, as well as live life more fully.
Ruth continued: “We are committed to making Mindfulness as accessible as possible for those who are unwaged or on low incomes and through our fundraising activities, we support those individuals to access free or low cost places, on our courses. We are proud that we will never turn anyone away who would like to learn these incredibly effective tools to manage life’s ups and downs.”
The team at Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind has expanded in recent years and now includes a number of Mindfulness trainers with particular specialisms, including working with young people, parents and those with recurrent depression.
